The Shepherd's Dawn Trek is one of our most immersive goat trekking experiences on the Costa Blanca. Designed for active adults and adventurous travellers, this early-morning 3 hours mountain trek follows the traditional rhythm of shepherd life, starting before sunrise and reaching the high viewpoints above Coll de Rates before the heat of the day arrives. We meet at the Coll de Rates car park at 5:15am and set off with our large male packgoats. These impressive animals are experienced mountain walkers and travel at a purposeful pace, making this experience ideal for hikers, photographers and visitors looking for a more active outdoor adventure. As the first light appears over the mountains, we steadily climb towards a higher panoramic viewpoint overlooking the valleys, ridges and distant Mediterranean coastline of Alicante Province. Along the way, guests experience the quiet beauty of the landscape waking around them, accompanied by the gentle sound of goat bells and birdsong. At the summit viewpoint, we pause to watch the sunrise with the packgoats. While the mountains glow with the colours of dawn, we serve fresh coffee, tea and croissants, giving everyone time to relax, take photographs and absorb the atmosphere of this remarkable location. Unlike many organised walks, The Shepherd's Dawn Trek offers a genuine glimpse into the relationship between shepherds, goats and the Mediterranean landscape. The experience combines mountain scenery, animal companionship and the peaceful stillness that can only be found in the hours before the world wakes up. After breakfast, guests may return with the group or choose to spend additional time at the viewpoint before making their own way back to the car park.
